3-D tv

While walking around the mall I checked out the Sony Style store and was immediately drawn into their 3-D tv section.  Since 3-D is really taking off now, it is now available for your own home theater.

I tried on the glasses and it is actually really cool.  You definitely want to go with the biggest screen you can afford to really get a good 3-d experience.  Although the 3-d is really cool, I don’t find having to wear a pair of glasses to be that cool.  How about you?  Are you planning on buying a 3-d tv or do you have one already?  If you do have one, which one do you recommend?

Hermann Park

I went out the Hermann Park in Houston the other day.  Hermann Park is located in the museum district of Houston alongside the Houston Zoo.  It’s a real nice place to spend an afternoon jogging,  playing sports, relaxing and even napping. There are loads of trails for running and other activities such as: paddle-boats, monuments, kiddie-train, kiddie-water park, restaurants, japanese garden, stage-show pavilion and many more.  I highly recommend visiting it in the cooler parts of the day, due to the heat.
A photo of down-town buildings I shot on the way to the park.  Not bad for rush-hour + driving…
A monument in a grass circle.
The reflection pool.  Very nice to sit back and relax on the edge of it.  Some people were even getting their feet wet.
A walkway/bridge that takes you to the kiddie water-park.
People on paddle-boats enjoying the cool water.
A nice shot of the greenery.
The entrance to the Japanese garden.  I was excited to see this one here.
I haven’t translated this yet. Free translations are welcome.
A Japanese style house inside the garden area.  I’m not sure if there was anything inside or if someone actually lives there.

Norah Jones Concert

Norah Jones played at the Verizon Wireless Theater the other day and I didn’t miss out.  I have always been a huge fan and really enjoyed listening to her play live. She plays just like the record and the mood of the venue is set to accommodate the style of music.  The show was sit down only so there was no view issues even though I was towards the back.

Norah on the guitar.

Norah on the piano. She plays so much guitar now that I was afraid she wouldn’t do any keyboard songs… but she did.. and I was happy :)

Dragon boat races festival

I went to the dragon boat race festival in downtown the other day. The dragon boat festival is an annual event that is thrown by the Texas Dragon Boat Association.  It’s loads of fun because they have boat races as well as fun booths.  They had food booths and even Asia information booths.  Since I am totally into Asian culture, this was definitely my kind of festival.

Everyone hanging out on the hill watching the races. Part of the Houston skyline in the background.

A race underway.  Once they built up momentum, they really zipped by.  The person facing the paddlers bangs a drum to keep the rhythm.  The one at the rear steers the boat.

The winners of this round coming back into dock.  Tired, but happy.

Traditional Korean dancers. One of them was wearing a mask, didn’t get to take a shot of him/her.

Bollywood dancing. I really liked the dancing and would like to watch & learn some more of it. Do you like to dance? If so, what do you dance too?

Sonata Arctica Concert 2010

Finally, after 7 years I got a chance to see Sonata Arctica in concert!  Sonata Arctica is a progressive rock band from Finland that totally rocks.  I started listening to Sonata sometime in 2003 after a friend of mine who was an exchange student from Germany told me about them.  I’ve been hooked ever since. They played both their new and older stuff. It all sounded great. I think it’s really cool that they came all the way from Finland to play here in Houston.  My many thanks to them on that.

One of the things I like about the band is that every member of the band is just incredible. I’ve tried to play some of the guitar parts and it’s just super complicated and way too fast for me.  I have tried the same with the vocals.  Another thing I like about the band is their style/culture. They kind of follow a magical and interestingly scary theme in their artwork and music.

They were also accompanied by bands Powerglove and Mutiny Within, which both sounded awesum.

The drum kit right before the show started.  Once live it totally rocked!

Tony singing his heart out. His range is amazing and unreal. So awesume to listen to it live.

Sonata Moving around the stage. If I would have taken a video or used a motion-camera, you can see just how much energy these guys have.  Their presence really got the crow excited.

Henrik on the keys.

Henrik performing a killer solo on his keyboard at the end of the show.

The end of the show. Could have stayed all night and watched them play.

Power-Glove. They totally knew how to thrash it. These guys were crazy-musical and a lot of fun to listen to.

Mutiny-Within playing. You and I need to check this band out. Real good.

Doggie desserts

Walking through Old Town Spring I came across an interesting shop where they sell doggie desserts. At first I thought they were human desserts and wanted to eat one. But, after getting closer I found out the truth.  They look real good though and I wouldn’t mind trying one out (just to see).  Don’t count on finding these snacks in stores, because the guy running the place said that the shelf-life on such delicacies is too short to package.  The place is actually a Pet Bakery and sells all sorts of animal snacks as well as animal apparel.

I’m not much of an animal person, but are you?  And would you buy your doggie or animal some snacks like these?
