Switching to Linux

I decided to load Ubuntu on my laptop over the weekend. It feels so nice to be free.

All i had to do was go to ubuntu.com and download the disc image of the latest ubuntu release (7.10). After that the install was a breaze. The install took about 30 minutes total. Ubuntu allows you to just get up and go. Theres plenty of programs at your disposal to configure your system the way you want it. You can get some real sweet login windows and themes also.
As far as compatibility with my Gateway MX3231, I ran into an issue with the display resolution which I am still in the process of correcting.

All in all the system is running smooth and it’s quite fun having Linux.

  • hey, did you get the wireless working on the mx3231?? let me know. thanks

  • hi fondoo , yes I did get it to work. All I did was select the option on the top right of the screen that has the wireless controls. There you just set it to use your wireless. Make sure your wireles is on using the function key and F2. good luck.
